Central Coast Waldorf School is seeking an experienced, warm and dedicated Lead Early Childhood Teacher to join our faculty for the 2026-27 school year. This full-time role is ideal for an educator who is passionate about early childhood development and building meaningful relationships with children and families. The Lead Teacher will guide a classroom of children alongside an assistant teacher, creating a nurturing, rhythmic, and engaging learning environment rooted in Waldorf principles. This position offers the opportunity to work in a supportive and collaborative community, where professionalism, growth, and a love for teaching are highly valued.
About: Central Coast Waldorf School is a vibrant school with an enrollment of approximately 100 children, from preschool through 8th grade. We are an 18-year-old school with healthy enrollment, strong community support and we are certified by WECAN and AWSNA. We offer specialty programs in Spanish, Math, Handwork, Movement, Strings Ensemble, and Education Support. We are proud to have an experienced and committed faculty, along with a supportive and engaged parent body.

Location: Our school is located in Los Osos, a charming bayside community just 15 minutes from San Luis Obispo. Families from surrounding coastal towns such as Morro Bay, Cayucos, Cambria, San Luis Obispo and greater San Luis Obispo county, make up our school community. The area offers abundant outdoor activities, including beach excursions, hiking, biking, surfing and exploration of a nearby state park. It is beautiful here!
Position Details
Schedule: Monday - Friday
Position Type: Full Time
Location: Central Coast Waldorf School, Los Osos, CA
Pay: salaried, based on experience and Waldorf certification
Key Responsibilities:
Classroom Leadership
- Lead and manage an early childhood classroom with the support of assistant staff
- Create a healthy, orderly, and engaging classroom environment using natural materials whenever possible
- Prepare daily lesson plans incorporating storytelling, music, puppetry, movement, crafts, and outdoor activities aligned with Waldorf education
- Maintain classroom cleanliness and organization, including kitchen upkeep and inventory management
- Plan seasonal celebrations, crafts, and special projects
Student & Family Support
- Foster strong communication and collaborative relationships with parents
- Conduct parent-teacher conferences, home visits, and prospective family interviews
- Provide student progress reports two times per year
- Support children’s social, emotional, and developmental needs through daily observation and communication
Team Collaboration & School Participation
- Supervise and mentor assistant teacher
- Participate in weekly faculty and section meetings
- Participate on a committee
- Collaborate with faculty and administration
- Attend outreach events and open houses

Requirements
Qualifications & Skills:
- Waldorf teacher certification or current enrollment in a Waldorf teacher training program
- Minimum of 12 Early Childhood Education (ECE) units
- Experience working with young children, preferably in a Waldorf setting
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- A calm, nurturing, and collaborative approach
- Musical ability, especially singing
- Skills in handwork such as knitting, sewing, and crochet
- Reliability, initiative, and a joyful spirit
- Experience and a love for working with children
- Reliable and timely
- Clear fingerprints, background check, CPR/First Aid certified
- Creates engaging, interactive learning experiences
- Works cooperatively within a team environment
- Builds lasting relationships with students and families
- Is self-directed, creative, and committed to professional growth
