| Dear Central Coast Waldorf Families, The students and teachers are settling into new routines and the consistency of rhythm is starting to come back and hold us all. The summer rhythm is fading and weekday vs weekend rhythms are starting to appear. Unfortunately, last weekend, we experienced and act of vandalism in our lovely kindergarten classrooms. I took this as an opportunity to speak with students in grades 3 through 8 about the importance of respecting our spaces and asked their help in being extra eyes and ears for our sweet school. I met with each class to talk about what vandalism is, why it affects our whole community, who to talk to if they see something, and how they can help care for and protect our school environment. I appreciate your partnership in reinforcing these values at home. I purposely did not speak to the younger classes (preschool - 2nd grade) about the incident because in Waldorf education we try to protect the young child's sense of goodness in the world. Abstract concepts like motive, justice and intentional wrong doing are hard for young ones to understand. Thank you for keeping this information to yourself and not sharing with your young child (preschool - 2nd grade). We strive to protect their developing sense of goodness, emotional safety, and trust in the world. Especially in light of the gun violence that occurred this week, it's more important than ever to remind ourselves—and our children—that we all play a part in caring for one another and the spaces we share. This experience has offered a meaningful opportunity to reflect on the strength of our community and the importance of acting with kindness, awareness, and responsibility. Thank you for helping us uphold these values, both at school and at home. Back to School Night This week we have Back to School Night on Wednesday 9/17/25. Back to School Night is an opportunity for the parent body to come together and show their support for the school, while also receiving important updates and information about the upcoming year. All families are strongly encouraged to attend the first hour and then parents and guardians with students in grades 1st - 8th will break off and have their first parent evening of the year! Tuesday Tea Our first Tuesday Tea was a hit! Second breakfast, as it's known in my house, was lovingly received by all, new and veteran families. Join us on Tuesdays after drop-off for "Tuesday Tea." This is open to anyone who would like to stop in for a chat. As the year gets going we can take up a focus such as a craft or a topic of study, but for now it is a social time and a time to connect with other families. Have a beautiful weekend! Warm regards, Mrs. Wishon Happenings in the middle school classrooms and Tuesday Tea. |
