Friday Update 1/17/25

Dear Wishing Well Families,

I hope you've had a good start to your new year.  At Wishing Well we are back into the swing of things, the students happy to be with their classmates again and the teachers amazed at the growth that happens after just a couple of weeks.

Last week the L.A. fires were horrible.  My heart goes out to all families, friends, relatives and communities that were affected by the fires.  As well, as a Waldorf community we feel whole-heartedly for the Pasadena and Westside Waldorf Schools that were destroyed.  As a school, we reached out through AWSNA to offer support in the way of space in our classrooms, rooms in our homes and generally how we can be of help.  AWSNA will be connecting us with interested families.  If you know of a need, please let me know.  Below are some resources put together by RIE (Rescources for Infant Educators) about how to talk with children about wildfires if this is something living in your family.

Wishing you a lovely Martin Luther King Jr. Day weekend!

For Helping Children Process:

  • A free children's book Trinka & Sam: The Big Fire is available in multiple languages through Piplo Productions and the National Child Traumatic Stress Network. This gentle story helps children and families discuss their feelings and worries after experiencing a wildfire.
  • PBS SoCal has posted a resource entitled How to Talk to Kids About Wildfires
  • If you're wondering what to say and how to talk to children about the fires and losing a home, this short article from LAist is excellent, and this piece has similar information.

Animal Projects in 3rd/4th Grade

Ms. Kolea's class presented their animal projects to the school. There was a lot of creativity and hard work put into these. Nice work 3rd and 4th graders!

Handwork Class

Here are a few sweet items that our 1st and 2nd grade students have been working on in handwork class with Ms. Smith. Left to right: mouse, cat, lamb, and bunny. The doll in the first picture was used for inspiration for a current 2nd grade project.
